Join birding expert Greg Miller (of “The Big Year” fame) and his logistics team to engage in this fast-paced, fun competition to top birding sites on Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula. Greg’s team is one of two teams competing to identify the most species of birds on this one day adventure. The second team will be led by Glenn Olsen.
This team of competition birders, on their own team bus, will be led by team leader, Greg Miller, who will be accompanied by local experienced birders who live and breathe Galveston area birding. Sites visited will be determined by Greg, depending on weather and migration. Each competition group will spend the day on their own quest for the larger bird count. Participants can expect to see over 100 species of birds.
A good time is the main objective for this field trip. This a friendly competition, but as we search for birds, we will try to offer everyone on the trip an opportunity to look at as many species as possible. The faster pace may limit the amount of time spent at individual locations. We will definitely be on the move!
- Ideally, everyone in a group should get a look at all species. We all know that is not always possible, however, working together, we will try to make sure everyone has a great experience.
- At least one trip leader and two participants should see the bird for it to count.
Targets: over 100 species
