Robert Becker moved to Texas in 2004 and has birding ever since. A native Pennsylvanian, he bought his first camera in 1972 and began photographing birds and other wildlife. Becker’s life list includes more than 560 avian species across Texas, Arizona, Cape May, Duluth, Minn., South Florida and around the Great Lakes. He has also birded Mexico, Honduras, Belize and Costa Rica. Becker, who resides in Galveston, is a member of the Texas Ornithological Society, Houston Audubon and Galveston Audubon group. He writes a birding blog for Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council and leads birding walks on the island. Becker holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from American University and worked as a reporter, editor and columnist for newspapers including the Houston Chronicle, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sarasota Herald-Tribune and the San Juan Star.
