This is a meet-at-site trip. Driving directions will be emailed prior to the trip.
This field trip will start approximately one hour before sunrise at Galveston’s Pier 19 where we will photograph the shrimp boats leaving their docks for a morning of fishing. Since this will be shooting in low light, you will need to have a lens at an aperture of f/4 or larger and you will be shooting at a high ISO. Once the shrimp boats leave their docks, we may have an opportunity for some sunrise photos.
This will also be a great place to photograph Brown and White Pelicans, Black-crowned Night Herons, Great and Snowy Egrets and a variety of Gulls. We will change to our telephoto lens and spend a few minutes doing some bird photography here.
Bring: water, snacks, sunscreen, and insect repellant.
After a break, the group will meet at FeatherFest HQ near the Floral Ballroom of the Moody Gardens Hotel from 10:00am-noon. For the Critique Session, please bring your Memory Card with the photos from our morning field trip. We will have a computer with a card reader for a standard memory card and the CFExpress memory card. We will take turns viewing a few photos from each participant and will lead a discussion on key photographic concepts like clarity, focal point, depth of field, composition and color. We will also discuss & show a few editing elements in lightroom that are helpful in editing/improving your photos. Our goal is to help participants see photography as art.
