Chris Rankin

Chris is currently the CFO of a small manufacturing company in the Brazos Valley. Prior to his career in accounting/finance, he spent 10 years as commercial photographer providing images for national and regional advertising. Chris is an avid outdoorsman and has a background in forestry. He spends as much time in the field as he can and for the last several years he has concentrated  on nature photography.

 

What’s in the bag?

Chris’s list of equipment includes Canon 5D MK III & II bodies. His favorite lenses for nature photography are the Canon 500mm f/4,the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L, the Canon 16-35, f/2.8 L II and the Canon 180 macro lens. He also carries 1.4x and 2x tele-converters. For additional light, he utilizes the Canon 600EX-RT, the 430EX-RT and the Canon MR-14EX II ring flash.

Chris will introduce you to photographing wildlife from a car/truck while exploring the beauty and diversity of the Anahuac National Wildlife Reserve. Established in 1963, Anahuac NWR’s primary focus is to protect and manage the coastal marsh for migrating, wintering and breeding waterfowl.

Chris will introduce you to photographing wildlife from a kayak. Enjoy paddling in a provided kayak while slowly exploring the marshes of Galveston Island State Park, one of the area’s premier ecological jewels. This 2,000-acre public park offers a multitude of habitats that support a wide variety of birds like herons, egrets, Roseate Spoonbill, shorebirds and possible overhead raptors like osprey looking for prey.
