Join two competitive birders, Cullen Ondracek and Jeff Sexton, in this fast-paced, fun tour of top birding sites on Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula. This whirlwind birding trip will mimic the experience of competing in a Big Day challenge, without the pressure of battling another team for bragging rights.
Cullen and Jeff will lead the charge, with the goal of achieving over 100 species within the time constraints of the trip. Sites visited will be determined by the leaders based on migration patterns and weather, bolstered with inside knowledge from local guides who live and breathe Galveston area birding.
The main objective is to have fun as we strive to see as many species as possible and then try to find the last few elusive birds before the deadline. Although the fast pace will limit the amount of time spent at individual locations, we will try to give everyone on the trip an opportunity to look at as many species as possible. We will definitely be on the move!
Rules:
- Ideally, everyone in a group should get a look at all species. We all know that is not always possible, however, working together, we will try to make sure everyone has a great experience.
- At least one trip leader and two participants should see or hear the bird for it to count.
- There are no restrictions on where the group can go, but the trip must be completed with the bus back to headquarters in the allotted time.
