Here’s an ever-popular photography field trip that’s become part of our FeatherFest tradition! Join Sky King Falconry and Ruth Hoyt to photograph captive raptors and other trained birds in natural settings and on perches on a private West End property. This is a great opportunity to see and photograph these birds up close. Kevin from Sky Kings Falconry poses raptors in natural settings and possibly flies birds while discussing the birds’ behavior.
Ruth shows and shares tips and techniques for capturing clean portraits of birds with soft backgrounds, as well as tips and techniques for capturing birds in flight. This includes camera settings, quickly finding focus, panning the action, and other skills for catching artistic and/or technical shots of the Sky King Falconry birds.
Sky Kings Falconry is dedicated to education and wildlife preservation.
Suggested Equipment:Â digital SLR or mirrorless camera with a telephoto lens of 300mm or greater for bird portraits, shorter lens for wider views and birds in flight, sturdy tripod (preferred) or monopod, camera bag/backpack to keep gear organized.
Bring: Hat, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellant, hand wipes (to remove sunscreen and insect repellant from your hands)
This is a meet-at-site trip. Driving directions will be emailed prior to the trip.
