Native to SE Texas, Mark Scheuerman had over 100 species checked off in his Golden Guide by the age of eight. His interest in birds and the natural world has taken him birding throughout Texas, the US, and to fifteen other countries scattered over five continents. He is a regional editor for eBird and encourages others to contribute their birding records to the project to increase our knowledge and assist in bird conservation. Mark loves to share his passion for birds and the natural world with others and regularly leads field trips for various bird clubs, festivals, and privately.

The first part of this trip is similar to the trip to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. It will head west over the San Luis Pass bridge and off Galveston Island. The first destination will be Gulf Coast Bird Observatory to watch migrant songbirds being caught in mist nets and banded by professional bird banders.
